Wolford v. Lopez, US v. Hemani: Guns

These two cases extend the Court's continuing post-Bruen project of defining the limits of the Second Amendment. In Wolford, challengers argue that Hawaii's law requiring express permission from property owners before licensed carriers can bring firearms onto private property open to the public effectively nullifies the public-carry right recognized in Bruen, turning ordinary destinations like stores and restaurants into presumptive no-carry zones. In Hemani, the question is whether the federal law prohibiting firearm possession by someone who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance violates the Second Amendment as applied to the defendant. Together the cases will define how the history-and-tradition test from Bruen applies to modern gun regulations.
